What is the Direct to Market Program?

The Direct to Market (D2M) initiative is expanding to allow schools to procure maintenance and minor works from local contactors up to the value of $50,000.

  • Following the 2017 election, the McGowan Government introduced D2M, to provide schools with greater autonomy to manage their own maintenance and minor works programs.
  • Previously, schools were required to go through the Department to undertake small projects, often leading to inflated costs associated with project management.
  • D2M allows schools to seek quotes for selected works up to the value of $50,000 from local businesses.
  • The program is for public schools only.
  • At the 2021 election, the McGowan Government committed to expand D2M by lifting the value threshold for works from $20,000 to $50,000.
  • This expansion will apply from 1 July 2021.
